Our Story

Connect 8 was established in March 2015 with the vision of doing things differently and providing a more agile and robust response for our customers.

We started out as a telecommunication construction company and earned a reputation for delivering unprecedented flexibility and speed of construction. Over the years, our ownership structure has changed but our company values and work ethics have remained strong. Connect 8 is now owned by Spark and Electra and in May 2018 acquired Sky Communication Ltd to further grow our mobile and wireless communications capabilities.

Connect 8 has become NZ’s premier network construction contractor with the vision and capability to become the contractor of choice in the water, power, telco and mobile sectors. By leveraging our existing skills, we deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions that customers desire. Our goal is to improve operational efficiencies, speed to market, and provide a solid foundation for the roll out of future mobile, telecommunication and infrastructure technologies.

Management Team

  • Ray O’Regan

    Chief Executive

    Ray is an experienced and proven business leader who has worked in the underground utilities and telecommunication sector for more than 20 years. In his career, Ray has steadily progressed through the ranks by effectively managing the commercial outcomes, applying strong negotiation skills and having a genuine commitment to his employees’ success to deliver exceptional results.

    Ray was appointed CEO in March 2015 and has steered the group through innumerable challenges whilst maintaining trust, loyalty and engagement. Driven by the lessons learned in the field, Ray has created an environment that honours the company values and provides innovative solutions for customers to ensure the continued success of Connect 8 Ltd.

  • Jeff Thomson


    Jeff is a Chartered Accountant with over 20 years of commercial experience in a variety of industries. He has held a number of senior management roles and has strong knowledge on governance, tax, forecasting and reporting. He has mastered the art of critical thinking and is able to provide an array of information to the management team to make informed business decisions.

    Since joining Connect 8 Ltd in January 2016, Jeff has implemented best practices and controls and transformed the finance function to further strengthen the business. He leads the day-to-day finance operations and focuses on developing a high performing team, finding pragmatic solutions to business issues and driving the strategy and overall maturity of the business.

  • Jonathan Berry

    GM - Network Services

    Jonathan has managed many multi-million-dollar programmes of work in the mobile technology arena, globally. During his 20-year tenure, he has a long-standing record for successfully delivering complex projects for organisations such as Nokia, Ericsson, Telstra, Vodafone and Huawei. Backed with formal engineering systems and project management training, Jonathan has been at the heart of the mobile technology advancements from the early days of 2G through to the current development of 5G networks.

    At Connect 8 Ltd, Jonathan leads the Network Services team, which has already delivered more than 650 Wireless Broadband (WBB), Single RAN (SRAN) and Internet of Things (IoT) sites. His highly experienced team are at the forefront of mobile network deployment and have swiftly gained a solid reputation in the market.



  • Rajesh Singh


    Rajesh Singh is a non-executive director of Connect 8, and was instrumental in the establishment of the development of the joint venture concept between Vocus and Spark. He is currently the GM Value Management at Spark New Zealand and has held several roles since joining Spark.

    Prior to joining this, he held several senior leadership and director roles within the telecommunications industry in South Africa, where he migrated from in 2009. He has worked in IT and telecommunications for 18 years since graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of South Africa.

  • David Havercroft

    Chairman of the Board

    David Havercroft is a non-executive director of Connect 8, and joined the board in December 2016 when Spark took full ownership of the company. Until recently, David was Spark’s Chief Transformation Officer, and prior to that was the Chief Operating Officer.

    Prior to joining Spark in 2009, he held senior leadership positions in other large technology and telecommunications companies including IBM, KPN BASE, Cable and Wireless, and British Telecom.

  • Neil Simmonds


    Neil is the Chief Executive at Electra. He joined the Connect 8 board as a non-executive Director in May 2018. Neil has held a number of senior leadership roles in the utilities sector and working groups focussed on smart network technology. He is currently on the board of the Electricity Networks Association.

    A qualified Engineer and Fellow of Engineers NZ with an EMBA from Europe’s leading business school (IMD in Switzerland), Neil brings an excellent balance of technical and strategic business skills to the board.

Zero Harm is embedded in Connect 8’s culture and is fundamental to the company’s future success. Zero Harm means sustaining a work environment that both supports the health and safety of our people, other contractors, and the general public, and minimises the impact our business has on the environment.

Compliance with our health, safety and environmental (HSE) commitments is monitored by the Connect 8 HSE Committee. Given the company stance toward Zero Harm, all HSE Committee members have an responsibility to reinforce an employee’s right to refuse to undertake an activity where they believe their safety, or another person’s, is at undue risk.
