directional drilling


Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is a widely used trenchless solution for below-ground pipeline and utility installations. A low-disturbance approach with minimal environmental impact, HDD may well be a great solution for your projects requiring accurate and efficient crossing of roads, railways, rivers, terrain rock, sand, clay, bays and other obstacles.

We’ll design and construct underground ducted networks for you wherever your project is in New Zealand. Our experience in working with a range of drills and installing pipe from 25mm to 450mm for telecommunications, power and watermain/sewerage projects will be invaluable.

To really excel for our clients, we’ve invested in a wide range of equipment and personnel and designed quality control and assurance programmes to exceed our clients’ expectations. We’ve engaged experienced operators who know what it takes to get the job done and adopted a willingness to provide our team with additional training if required for our clients’ projects. Our Health and Safety Programme is implemented on all our projects with task-specific Job Safety Analysis documentation and Safe Work Method Statements to ensure risks are identified and either managed or removed.


Site survey and site engineering


If your project requires surveying and engineering services – no matter how complex – we’ll provide you with high-quality services and solutions. Our holistic approach to our site engineering and design services incorporates concept planning and design through to completion and management of telecommunications, power and water projects. As we have done for many projects throughout New Zealand, we’ll guide you through the processes of design, permitting, construction, and long-term management of your civil and/or technical project.


Cable installation


The Connect 8 team has installed ten's of thousands of kilometres of fibre optic cable throughout New Zealand in urban, rural and remote locations. Meticulous planning reinforces the effectiveness of our dedicated, versatile team that specialises in installing cables for power and telecommunications. The strength of their expertise, training and years of experience and skills using our wide range of equipment will provide confidence that your project will be safely completed to the highest possible standards. We utilise the latest plant and equipment including cable winches, blowing machines, cable drum jacks, rollers and drum trailers, all of which are carefully maintained and inspected at regular intervals to comply with current legislation.

Temporary traffic management services


As part of delivering your project, if required, you’ll be provided with a safe, efficient and reliable traffic management service. It’s an end-to-end traffic management solution including TMP design, a full fleet of plant and equipment and an experienced, qualified team that will deliver our promises. We work nationwide, deliver to NZTA-regulations, and tailor solutions according to the needs of the project. Safety is always a priority and we aim to minimise disruption. 




The Logistics department plays a key role throughout the project lifecycle. We offer material management, supplier qualification, inventory control, order fulfilment, and timely deliveries to ensure quality products are available for our projects with minimal disruption. Even if the products are purchased or supplied by your organisation for your project, we have processes to manage this and provide transparency and visibility in our warehouse. Ultimately, sourcing the best products for the best value is our goal. We prefer local suppliers.




Connect 8’s rigging teams operate throughout New Zealand, often in remote locations, using cranes, helicopters, gin poles, derricks and winches to develop new infrastructure that improves network performance for Network Operators. With qualified rope access technicians and MEWP operators, our department can tackle any task, big or small.


Mechanical workshop


Our fleet of vehicles, plant and well-equipped mechanical workshop will support your projects, and our controlled, low-cost maintenance solutions will optimise productivity and keep asset rates down. We’ll provide technical advice and assistance to ensure the right plant is used and we’ll ensure that it’s safe and compliant, minimising risk and addressing security issues. Regular audits and inspections will ensure plant is used correctly, and scheduled maintenance will prevent breakdowns and disruptions.

Whether your project is for a new build or for retrofitting an existing building, we’ll design, install and manage any indoor coverage solution, providing full coverage from all mobile networks for your building or campus. For indoor cellular coverage, we use the latest Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS). We can also install Wi-Fi coverage wherever you need it.

We are the experts in this field, and have delivered indoor coverage solutions for prominent New Zealand facilities such as Auckland’s Newmarket Westfield Shopping Centre, Waterview Road Tunnel, Eden Park Stadium, and at many hospitals, art galleries and commercial buildings.


Fibre optic networks


We create and deliver innovative end-to-end turnkey solutions nationwide for fixed fibre optic network providers. Our work encompasses the entire scope including design, build, programme management and ongoing operational maintenance. We have extensive expertise in fibre optic networks. Our services include network design and construction, forward assessment planning, route surveys, site access and consenting, cable blowing and hauling, fibre optic cable splicing and testing, cable location, digital mapping and GPS surveys.


Radio access networks


Connect 8 provides design, technical installation, site solutioning and commissioning services to all network providers in New Zealand for radio and IoT networks.

We upgrade cellular towers for network enhancements and scheduled maintenance through the replacement or addition of antennas, cables, coaxial, fibre and DC power. This includes pole replacements, implementing wireless broadband, and integrating and commissioning new equipment into the network. These features provide services such as wireless broadband and give customers access to Long Term Evolution (LTE) high-speed internet without the need for a hardwired physical connection. The services also increase internet speed and improve coverage.

Network drive testing &  optimisation


Our drive testing solution comprises compact units that cover all 3GPP technologies and which are multi-SIM capable for operator performance comparisons. No skilled technician is required; just a driver or walk tester for urban or in-building testing. The raw data uploads automatically after collection and the processed information is available to you within a few hours of collection.


Ethernet digital microwave radio


If you need a high-speed, highly reliable transmission solution between two or more locations, then we have the answer. Using the latest Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDMR ) technology from Europe that is designed and installed by our specialist in-house teams, we have a range of systems available to meet your specific needs and budget. We can supply you with a single point-to-point link or build a whole transmission network for you – and we’ll manage the whole process from design to network management, including doing surveys, preparing reports, managing licences, supplying equipment, installation, commissioning and support.

With up to 10 Gbps throughput speeds, for a one-off cost our EDMR systems provide a cost-effective alternative or complement to fibre transmission solutions. We can also fully manage the link for you and maintain, repair or upgrade your existing microwave links anywhere in New Zealand or the Pacific Islands.
